More than 1.2 million Ford Taurus and Mercury Sedans will be recalled by Ford
Motor Co. due to its problems in the brake lights and air filters. For 2000-2003
model years, Ford Taurus? encountered brake lights malfunction that brought two
accidents and one injury. Ford is also recalling an additional 281, 926 Sable
and Taurus Sedan from 2003 model year because the vehicle's air filter in the
engine can smolder or burn.
Ford Taurus which are made earlier in 2003 already possess a new brake light
system, so all they need is to replace the air filters. There are also Ford Taurus's
to be recalled in 2000 model because of the similar brake light problem. Since
brake light repair didn?t resolve the defect, the solution made is to replace
the brake lights. 2004 models of Ford Taurus are not affected because they are
already offered with new brake light system. All other Ford Taurus manufactured
before 2000 are also free from recall because different brake light system has
been applied to them.

Though 2004 models are not experiencing defect in brake light system, they also
become subject for recall due to problem with the vehicle's front seats, which
have the possibility to rattle or become loose. According to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, Taurus Sedans in cold-weather regions are also
recalled because of its fractured front springs might break and rupture a tire.
